There has never been a better time to be a British tennis fanatic than now! The impossible happened, for so many years, us Brits became used to that bitter taste of defeat and the ‘oh so close moments’. But not anymore! Not only has Andy Murray succeeded where so many before him failed (*cough Tim Henman) but the young hopes are also shining brighter than ever before. The Olympics gave us a spring in our step and Sir Murray and co will ensure that 2024 is a memorable one!

Tennis Sports Betting Welcome Bonus – Matched Deposit

Of all the bonuses, free bets and other promotions to entice you to join an online bookmaker, the matched deposit deals are the most generous. This generosity does often come at a price but don’t worry as we will explain the main points you need to be aware of.

Tennis Sports Betting Welcome Bonus – What Can I Get?

Many of the welcome bonus deals will offer to match your first deposit. It is usually a 100% match but some sports sites have a smaller amount (50% for example). The minimum deposit is usually £10 and the maximum ranges from site to site but can reach a very tasty £200.

Tennis Matched Deposit – What do I Need to Know?

Wagering requirement – If you are new to sports betting online, the wagering requirement can take a bit of explaining to get your head around it. As the majority of complaints against online bookmakers are regarding wagering requirements, it is worth 30 seconds of your time to understand them.

The online sports sites want you to stay on their site, if they just gave you £50, you could say “thanks” and withdraw it. So to prevent this happening they state you have to “turn over” the amount they gave you as a bonus, this turn over figure changes at each site but let’s have a look at an example.

I sign up with a company called ABC Sports, the offer states that the wagering requirement is x5, it is a 100% matched deposit up to £100. I like the sound of this deal and I deposit £50, ABC Sports are true to their word and match my deposit, I have £100 to use to place bets.

As stated, the wagering requirement is x5, the bonus was £50 so this means I need to have settled bets of at least £250 before I can withdraw any winnings from the bonus funds. To make things a bit more complicated, some online bookmakers state the wagering requirement applies to the bonus you received AND your deposit amount. If you see this, the wagering requirement is doubled and a x5 wagering is in reality x10. If we use this in the previous example, my £250 requirement would be increased to £500! If you don’t intend to place many bets, then you may struggle to meet this target.

% of deposit matched – In our example the bookmaker was offering 100% deposit match, this is the most common amount but can vary. If the matched deposit was 50%, I would need to deposit £100 to get £50.

Timescales – It is no good receiving hundreds of pounds worth of free bets if realistically you are not going to meet the deadline for meeting the wagering requirement. Some online bookmakers will remove any bonus funds and any associated winnings if the wagering requirement is not met in time so this could be vital. The time given does vary quite a bit, ranging from seven days to ninety days so ensure you check the details of any offer before accepting.

Any other conditions – This blanket phrase covers anything else that could affect your ability to meet the wagering requirement, as each company has its own terms and conditions which change often it’s impossible to list them all here and we strongly recommend you check the fine print on any offer. One rule we have fallen for in the past is that at some online bookmakers, only the first bet on an event counts towards your wagering requirement.

For example, I place a £20 on Andrey Kuznetsov beating Martin Klizan in a ATP match. Before the match I think Andrey will make short work of this game so I place a £50 bet on the game having under 22.5. At some sportsbooks, only the initial £20 will count. This is an important clause if you like having multiple bets on a single event. The recommendation here is either you find a site with no such clause or you place your highest stake bets first.

The final piece of advice on this subject is to check if there is a minimum odds requirement for a bet to count towards the wagering requirement. A few will state that the odds need to be at least 8/11 (1.75). Tennis is one of the sports that this restriction can hit hard!

Many of the match ups at major tournaments involve a David v Goliath scenario, surprises do happen of course but many fans of tennis betting bet large and use small margins to show returns. That strategy could be blocked with this condition in place. So please bear this in mind.

Tennis Betting Welcome Bonus – Free Bets

‘Free’ is perhaps the best word in the English dictionary, that warm glowing feeling when you get something for nothing is great, is there a catch?

Tennis Free Bets – What Can I Get?

One of the first things you will notice about free bets is that they are not to the same high lofty amounts that you can receive with a matched deposit. That is not to say they are not good value, typical deals will see are ‘Bet £30 get £30 Free’ and ‘Bet £10 Get £20 Free’, these deals represent a 100% and 200% return on your deposit. Free bet deals will normally range from £10 – £50.

Tennis Free Bets – What do I Need to Know?

Whilst it is true that the free bets on offer from sports betting sites do not usually come with the plethora of terms and conditions that accompany matched deposit offers, they can and do come with some conditions that you need to be aware of.

The first one, which we mentioned in the previous section was the issue of minimum odds. This is quite a common condition of free bets and for tennis fans it can have a big impact.

A lot of sites will insist that your eligible bet meets a minimum bet criteria, this is usually around 8/11 (1.75) but can vary. This is to stop you betting on what the bookmakers believe is a dead certainty (Novak Djokovic beating the number 500 ranking player), you take your small profit and run.

If this is a big problem to your proposed tennis betting strategy then it might be worth combining your single bets into an accumulator bet, not only will this avoid the minimum odds rule but it will also wield better returns. It of course should be mentioned and recognised that the more selections you add, the bigger the risk. If I was to list every accumulator bet that had let me down due to a ‘dead cert’, this wouldn’t be a website but more of a Martina Cole novel but with more swearing! Another point to mention is that many online bookies reward acca bets with extra bonuses the more selections you make. This can be up to 100% on your winnings.

The next thing to consider is how long do you have to play your free bets? Thankfully, due to the reduced amount of money you receive, this isn’t such an issue with free bets. Most people could easily get through £30 of free bets within seven days, some online sportsbook offer much more time.

Another thing to consider is that unlike matched deposit offers, many free bet offers are based on your first bet made and not the amount of your first deposit. If you have read any of our other guides on football betting or horseracing betting, then you will have read that we have misunderstood terms and conditions which led to getting a £5 free bet rather than the expected £20 one. The hope is that in sharing this information, it will stop you feeling how we did!

Tennis Betting Bonuses – Other Promotions

The vast majority of new customer offers fall into the two categories we have discussed, matched deposit or free bets. A new wave of sports book offerings is coming onto the market, history has taught us to be wary of ‘the new kid on the block’ but some of the breakthrough promotions are coming from some of the most respected names in the business, one such company is 888sport. Their welcome offer is intriguing as it also carries a big degree in risk and let’s be honest, none of us would be here if we didn’t like a degree of risk and chance in our lives!

With the 888sport offer, they offer to treble the odds on your first bet. Imagine the possibilities! A 2-1 cert becomes 6-1. A riskier 5-1 becomes 15-1 and the outsider that you fancy at 20-1 suddenly becomes an unbelievable 60-1 shot.

This is where this incredible conundrum takes place. Do you play it safe and grab funds for your bankroll or do you just go for it?

Remember in 2013 when Sergiy Stakhovsky stunned Roger Federer to win the 2nd round match at Wimbledon? The Ukrainian Sergiy, was ranked at a lowly 116th when he beat the Swiss hero. Imagine the odds on that? Now imagine those odds trebled!

Tennis Other Promotions – What do I Need to Know?

Treble the odds sounds great and it is! The thing you need to know is that the difference between the normal odds and the enhanced odds is paid out as free bets. I personally don’t mind this, I get my normal cash win and a pot of free bets to play again. It’s like being given lucky dips for the Lotto, the difference being that I am in charge of my destiny.

The maximum amount you can win is £5000 which is totally fine, the best thing about this deal is that there are no wagering requirements, bet and forget!

Our View: Which One of the Welcome Bonuses is Better for Tennis?

If you have visited a few online sports books, you will soon realise that tennis betting is not top of anyone’s agenda. The good news is that it doesn’t really matter! Each offer is generic and there are no conditions on what sport you bet on. So the best site depends on your circumstances and how you intend to bet.

If you are likely to only bet on certain events such as Wimbledon, then the lower the commitment the better. Choose free bets or great promotions such as 888sport’s treble the odds. If you are an all-rounder and are looking to bet more regularly then the world’s your oyster, do what is best for your budget, your skill level and your aspirations.

Your bankroll can not only affect the choice of markets you can spread bet on, it can also affect the type of bet you can place (cover bets such as Goliath are expensive).

Part of the battle of finding an online sports betting site is finding one that ticks all of your personal boxes, take advantage of the low commitment deals to test out a site, sometimes the only way to appreciate something done well is to experience something done bad!

Major Tennis Events to Bet on in 2024

tennis-full-width One of the greatest innovations within online sports betting was the introduction of in-play. For the first time you could bet in real-time (albeit with a slight delay) on events that are happening. This also opened hundreds more markets, you could bet on who would win the next point, set and even the margins of a victory.

Tennis benefits from this more than most sports, this is due to the huge amount of games that take place within the ATP circuit. The pace of games is almost relentless throughout the year and even when no major tournaments are on, you can still bet on regional ATP ranking games.

Types of Betting Available

The types of bets you will place on tennis are no different to any sport with a great selection of bets available to you. Most people will be aware of the simplest bets such as singles and doubles. They are just the start…

Name of Bet Number of Bets Description
Single 1 The easiest type of bet. 1 selection in 1 match, your selection must win to get a return.
Double 1 A bet on 2 selections, both must win to see a return.
Treble 1 A bet on 3 selections, all must win to see a return.
Accumulator 1 Four or more selections, often referred to as how many selections are made, i.e fourfold, fivefold, sixfold, sevenfold etc.
Trixie 4 Contains 3 doubles and a treble. 2 must be successful to see a return.

Goliath 247 Contains 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, 8 sevenfolds and an eightfold accumulator. A minimum of two selections must be successful to gain a return.

Tennis Accumulator / Multiple Bets

Many fans of tennis betting are taking advantage of full coverage bets, these bets give you a degree of error when making selections as not all of them have to be successful to see a return. These types of bets are good when betting on ‘up and coming’ players who have the talent but perhaps not the consistency.

The most exciting bets (for me personally at least!) are accumulator bets. When you pick three or more selections and place an accumulator bet, the winnings from one selection is transferred to the next selection. Even with modest odds, a five-fold accumulator can pay out a pretty penny. As an added bonus many of the top online sports sites will add an accumulator bonus, the more selections you make, the higher the bonus!

Tennis Multiple Bets – What do I Need to Know?

Full coverage bets are a great way of maximising winnings. They can however be expensive to place. If you are planning on taking advantage of them, then the minimum bet amount is an important piece of information.

Bet Type Number of Bets Cost of Bet at 50p Cost of Bet at £1
Heinz 57 £27.50 £57
Lucky 31 31 £15.50 £31
Lucky 63 63 £31.50 £63
Super Heinz 120 £60 £120
Goliath 247 £123.50 £247

You ideally want the bookmaker to offer low stakes such as 5p or 10p. However, some online sportsbooks only allow bets of 50p or more. As the table above shows, this can make placing them a costly exercise. The returns of course will be great, it is usually a case of finding the right balance for the type of player you are.

Tennis Betting Online – Payment Options

It is highly likely that the debit or credit card that sits in your wallet will be accepted at one of our featured sports betting sites. All the best online bookies offer a great selection of payment methods.

A word of caution regarding payment options, some payment methods such as Skrill and paysafecard may be excluded from promotions such as matched deposits and free bets so please check the terms and conditions on any deal.

If you would like to read more on alternative ways to fund your sports betting account we have guides available for PayPal, paysafecard and Skrill that you may be interested to read.

Tennis – Top Tips for Punters

  1. The cream rises to the top – As a rule of thumb, the more prestigious the competition, the less likely you are to see an upset. ATP events have the lowest favourite win percentage at 63%. This jumps to 70% for 500 and 1000 events. Grand Slam events have the highest favourite win percentage of over 75%.
  2. Keep off the grass – The type of surface that is been played on has an effect on the chances of an upset. The favourite wins on grass seven out of ten times, clay and indoor hard courts give the best chance of an upset.
  3. The French connection – The Paris Open is the most unpredictable event and it’s not uncommon to see a few surprises. The scheduling of this event which comes right at the end of the tennis year and a few player’s minds might be drifting to their holidays.
  4. Don’t be shy, shop around! – Loyalty is a noble trait but not when it comes to online sports betting! Once you have achieved all your commitments (wagering requirements) then have a look around. There is no reason you cannot have more than one betting site you use. I’ve been guilty of bonus hunting many times. Another plus is that you can compare odds at the different sites to see if you are getting the best value tennis prices.
  5. Poach those promotions – While dedicated tennis promotions are a bit thin on the ground, with a bit of patience you can find them. When a high profile event is on, such as Wimbledon, you can expect all the top betting sites to be tripping over themselves to offer tennis based deals.

Conclusion – Best Betting Bonuses for Tennis

This really is the golden age of online betting and with competition being fierce among rival sportsbooks, the customer is the winner.

The best betting bonus depends on the type of player you are. A casual player will appreciate the relaxed conditions of the free bet offers. Whilst regular or high rollers will love the bankroll boost that matched deposit offers bring. If you want to gamble with your bonus, then 888sports treble the odds deal could be the one for you!

As we mentioned in this article, not many sites have much for the tennis fan to get excited about. If you are only going to bet on tennis then this should be a real consideration, it can be frustrating to see pages and pages of promotions or special deals only to find none of them are of any use to you. Finding a tennis friendly site could well be more important than a higher matched deposit or more free bets!
