Welcome to my Football League column for BestBettingBonuses. I spent my whole career in these three divisions, from League Two right the way up to promotions with Sheffield United and Derby, so there isn’t much about this part of the pyramid I haven’t seen first-hand.

Every week I’ll be going through the Championship, League One and League Two – the form, the players worth watching, the managers under pressure – and giving you my predictions across all three.

Internationals

The Importance of Trai Hume’s Versatility for Sunderland and Northern Ireland

There are probably 2/3 players in that team currently that just seem invaluable, a little bit like Jonny Evans and David Healey from years ago. From the first day Trai came in, he had this assured nature about him, but alongside that he’s so aggressive, and his standards in training are so high that it’s no surprise to me that he’s gone from strength to strength. He’s a naturally good footballer, and coupled with the fact that his game understanding is of a high level, you feel like he could play anywhere, a little bit like Stu Dallas in the latter part of his career. I’m sure Regis Le Bris will be delighted knowing that Trai can play across so many positions, as they have such a packed schedule and with the intensity they play at his robustness will also be key

The potential of Everton Prospect Braiden Graham

I watched Braiden play twice last year for Everton U21S, and he was the best player on the pitch both times. He’s a livewire who’s aggressive with the ball and has a knack for scoring goals, which I think, with players coming from academies, is a rare skill! I’m looking forward to seeing his positional development as I’ve seen him play across the front line and nobody in recent years has really nailed down that starting no 9 position. The lads coming through for NI are so exciting in forward areas and will be pushing each other for starting places in the not too distant future, and hopefully that accelerates their development.

Championship

Cashin Injury a Huge Blow for Derby

It’s obviously a huge blow; I’ve got no doubt Cash is a better player now than when he left and will have become more of a leader in the time he’s been away. He’s still only 24 and has so much potential – before he left he was getting better and better and his experiences over the last couple of seasons will no doubt have improved his game. Hopefully for Derby, they can get Cash fit ASAP.

Final Word

That’s everything from me this week. The beauty of the Football League is that it rarely does what you expect, and the clubs that come out on top in May are usually the ones that stay calm through the runs where nothing goes their way. I’ll be back next week with another look at the Championship, League One and League Two, plus my predictions for the full round of fixtures.
