Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has told Best Betting Bonuses that he believes Liverpool and their arch-rivals must tackle similar issues at their respective clubs before starting their Premier League campaigns next season. Both clubs must decide whether to stick or twist with current managers.

“Manchester United and Liverpool are both equally placed going into next season as things stand, because there’s a lot of doubt in both camps,” Meulensteen said.
“Liverpool fans are unsure whether Arne Slot is the right man to carry the team forward, and it’s a huge call for the club’s hierarchy to make. But there’s a similar situation at Man United with Michael Carrick, and whether he is the right person to lead the team into next season.
“Both sides need to look at which players they need to let go in the summer. Liverpool did themselves no favours by letting Luis Diaz leave and join Bayern Munich; he’s been brilliant in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
“Slot won the league with Jurgen Klopp’s team last season. He tweaked a few things, but those decisions have not worked out for the better and the signings have not delivered at all in terms of Alexander Isak and Florian Writz’ contributions.
“Slot has to engineer his own side, because he likes his teams to have more composure on the ball, rather than the more energic style with Klopp. But the needle has moved too far; Liverpool are too pedestrian and slow.
“They need to address some key areas in the transfer window. Mohamed Salah needs to be replaced, the new signings such as Isak and Writz need to bear fruit, and their defence and midfield need attention too.
“But Man United are in the same boat. Casemiro is leaving, and Kobbie Mainoo needs to have the right partner next to him in the middle of the park. I still believe the defence lacks some steel, so they could use some reinforcement at the back too.”
